IOM Finland provides Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration services to returnees from Iceland in cooperation with the Icelandic Directorate of Immigration. Eligible migrants include asylum seekers, persons considered to be vulnerable, victims of trafficking and unaccompanied minors in Iceland. The AVRR-ICE project has started as a pilot in 2016, and aims at contributing to establishing a consistent and nation-wide offer of AVRR in Iceland for persons in need of return assistance. The project’s main focus is on assisting returnees through counselling, assistance with travel documentation needs, international travel arrangements, provision of transit and arrival assistance as well as operational/medical escorts and onward transportation to final destination. In addition, returnees will receive departure assistance in Reykjavik airport together with pre-departure cash payments from the Icelandic Directorate of Immigration. The services are free of charge for the returnees.
